Zen Shorts by Jon J Muth

There was once an old farmer who had worked his crops for many years. One day, his horse ran away. Upon hearing the news, his neighbors came to visit.
"Such bad luck," they said sympathetically.
"Maybe," the farmer replied.
The next morning the horse returned, bringing with it two other wild horses.
""Such good luck!" the neighbors exclaimed.
"Maybe," replied the farmer.
The following day, his son tried to ride one of the wild horses, was thrown off, and broke his leg.
Again, the neighbors came to offer their sympathy on his misfortune.
"Such bad luck," they said.
"Maybe," answered the farmer.
The day after that, military officials came to the village to draft young men into the army to fight in a war. Seeing that the son's leg was broken, they passed him by.
"Such good luck!" cried the neighbors.
"Maybe," said farmer.

this summarizes how i feel about God and life right now.

(to clarify: it summarizes it in the sense that i think sometimes an event in my life or the world that i think seems "good" or "bad" is sometimes shortsighted...and it's hard to name things in that way at times)

Hey - your daily blog has gone weekly! Ha ha! Glad to see a new entry, even if I didn't actually check while I was "vacationing" with the folks.

I like this Zen short, too. Without getting too deep, it reminds me that life just keeps moving on... no matter how tempted we are to draw conclusions, morals or lessons in the middle of the journey.

Thanks, Rachel!
